6 Ways To Protect Your Energy

There are 4 Foundations that have guided and supported my spiritual journey; Wellness, Energy, Insight and Faith. For the next few weeks we are going to talk about Energy.

~~Have you ever stepped into a room and immediately felt like you didn’t want to be there?

Have you met someone and felt warm and safe as if you just got a big hug…only they didn’t touch you?

You are picking up on the subtle energies the people around you express. People have an energy field around them comprised of their mood, beliefs, physical make up and more. Some people’s energy fields feel happy, welcoming and pleasant while others feel shocking, scary or sad. Now realize I am not talking about the read of their body language or the expression on their face, I mean, how the other person makes you feel.

I learned this for myself when I was working alone in an office one afternoon. I suddenly felt hot and angry. For no apparent reason, my stomach was pitted in knots and I found myself agitated. Just as I was wondering what happened to me (was it indigestion?) I heard a loud and angry voice come from the office next door. What was happening? As the voice grew louder and angrier so did my symptoms. For the first time the light bulb went off above my head. Ah ha! Not my anger, not my emotion. Thank goodness I thought. Now what do I do? At the time, I picked up file folders and left the room. The symptoms eventually faded but the curiosity did not subside. I was left questioning what happened and how I protect myself.

Here are some quick and easy ways to repel that feeling that isn’t your feeling, and negate the effects of other people’s energy field on your mood and physical feelings.

  • Scan your body and notice where you feel it most. Recognize that it is not yours. Breathe deeply. On your exhale, focus your intention to the area of your body that you “felt” the emotion and keep breathing until you feel it subside.

  • Visualize a force field around you. It could be your favorite flower, chain mail (the armor a knight would wear), a glowing force field, white light, whatever works for you. See this protection around you and then allow it to get rid of the unwelcomed feeling.

  • Sound vibration is very effective in changing the energy. How many people sing or whistle when they are nervous or scared as a way to lighten their mood? I do. When I’m in my car and feeling stressed I use Om. It helps to center the heart because when you make the sound, your mouth is closed and that way the sound resonates lower, in your chest area. Ahhhh works too and focuses more of the energy on your neck and head. Try it some time. It works to soothe and calm. If all else fails, just repeat “Not my circus, not my monkeys”.

  • Heart to Mind. Put both of your hands over your heart, close your eyes and connect your heart and mind. See a connection of energy running from your heart to your mind and back again. Feel the pulse, and breathe, deeply, in and out, until you feel calm.

  • Scents can help too. In my office I keep both Sage and Lavender mist. If you have any essential oils, put them on your wrists and temples, especially Valor, Frankincense and White Angelica. Stimulating the olfactory helps to distract the mind from negative feelings (like eating chocolate, although I’m not recommending that here.)

  • Epsom salt bath. I don’t know why this helps, but it does. Sometimes we get other people’s energies stuck to us and we feel weighted down or overwhelmed. Sitting in a bath with Epsom salt releases the energy. I’m sure there is science behind this but I just know it works. Add a scent of lavender or sage plus a song of monks chanting or a crystal bowl playing and you will chase away all the negative vibes, guaranteed.

It’s so important not to take on anything that doesn’t belong to you. We each have enough to handle in our own lives with our own relationships and challenges. The first step to mastering our own journey is to protect our energy. When you can feel your best you can give your best efforts to the things that fulfill your life’s purpose. However, if you give away your resources, you will feel weak and restless and not move forward at the pace that you wish. Make this a practice. Be vigilant of your precious energy, feel better more often and you will always do your best.

What else you have tried that works for you?

Blessed Be!
